Treating Your Acne - 8 Things You Should Do!

When it comes to treating acne, everyone wants that one 'silver bullet' that will solve their acne problems. And depending on your type of acne there may well be one for you.

But while you are searching for it, there are some simple things you should remember to do that could alleviate (if not eliminate) many of your acne problems. That is - if you remember to do them!

Know that an acne pimple is a skin pore that has become clogged and infected with bacteria. As your body attempts to fight off this infection, the ensuing battle results in an unsightly zit! It is in this battleground where we will try to give your body every possible advantage.

Acne can erupt unexpectedly at all ages - 30s, 40s, 50s! Knowing how to treat your particular case may require a dermatologist, but here are some general and effective acne treatments that you should try first.

1 - Keep your facial skin clean - this is one of the most important steps. Be sure to use a mild soap and water or an antiseptic wash. Be as gentle on your skin as possible since breaking the skin can result in a worse acne breakout and possible even cause scars.

2 - Keep your pillowcase fresh, putting on a clean one every two days or so. This is because oil from your face and hair get transferred onto your pillowcase at night and may over time irritate the acne on your skin.

3 - Daily wash your hair. This is especially important if your hair has oily tendencies. Keeping this oil away from your skin will help clear up the clogged pore condition.

4 - To keep your skin healthy be sure you are keeping a nutritious diet regime. Take a multi-vitamin to ensure all you are getting all the nutrients you need if you are deficient in some areas.

5 - Vitamin A has been shown to strengthen skin tissues and also aid in the prevention of acne. (Carrots anyone?)

6 - Water helps your body flush waste away and out from your body. Six to Eight glasses every day ought to do it.

7 - Avoid excessive use of makeup - especially the oil based ones. Remember we are trying to unblock and clear your pores of all oil and make it possible for them to 'breath' again.

8 - Use an exfoliating cleanser. This cleaning agent helps to peel back some of the outer surface of the skin and open up the pores. Special pads also help to draw out the excess buildup around your pores.

These eight tips are a good start towards healthy and vibrant facial skin. If your condition is more severe, be sure to consult with a professional.

Acne Natural Cure - Easy and Effective Ways to Stop Acne

Have you ever wondered what people used to treat acne before all cleansers and antibiotics appeared on the market? With so many acne medications available online and from a local supermarket, many people don’t even think of acne natural cure. However, most commercial cleansers are harsh on your face, not to mention that trying several of them to find the right one for you would cost a fortune. You would be surprised how many products from an average person kitchen can serve as effective natural acne cure.

There are many natural acne remedies; the only trick is to find one that would work for your skin type. Unfortunately, here you will have to experiment and see what works and what doesn’t. We offer you several recipes of acne home treatment. Try them and see which will help to clear your skin.

Natural acne remedies to clean your skin

A wash of milk with lime is a great treatment for blackheads. First bring a glass of milk to a gentle boil, and then add juice from half a lime. When the milk cools down it makes a great face wash. You can store it in the fridge for a couple days.

A raw potato is cheap and brilliant acne natural cure, especially for whiteheads. The vitamin C makes your skin glow, and alkaline in the potato kills the bacteria on your face. The potato also has an exfoliating effect helping you to get rid of dead skin cells. Papaya fruit produces similar effect; you should also use it raw.

Natural moisturizers for skin with acne problem

Remember, that even the most gentle and natural products to clean your face leave your skin a bit dry, so it needs a moisturizer. Almond oil is an excellent way to re-hydrate skin after using an acne natural cleanser. Grind 7-8 almond nuts (not fried of course) with a little bit of water. Spread the paste on your face and let it stay for a few minutes. Then gently wash it off with water. Another good natural moisturizer is buttermilk or low fat, non flavored yogurt.

One important thing to remember about all natural acne remedies as well as all natural skin care products, is that since you don’t use any preservatives, you will have to store them in a fridge. It is also best to use it within 2-3 days, otherwise the product starts spoiling and you can infect your skin and make acne problem even worth.

Some people think that acne is related to your diet. Pizza, chocolate and other foods with a lot of oil are blamed, but in fact there is no evidence that foods cause acne or make them worse. However, adding fresh fruit to your diet seems to help many people to clrear their faces. Possible reason is vatamins and minirals that fresh fruit contains. So keep that in mind, and next time you feel like a snask have an apple not a cooki.

Of course you can’t expect to get rid of your acne in a few days, natural cure always takes a little time to work. But if you are persistent, you will get blemish free skin and will not experience any dangerous side effects that commercial acne medicine has.

Tips For Dealing With Body Acne

While acne problems are most often associated with the face, body acne is also a big problem, and in fact acne is the number one skin problem in the country, affecting all areas of the body, not just the face. Dealing with acne is often not an easy process, and the sheer number of acne relief preparations can make shopping for the right one a difficult and time consuming process.

When shopping for the best solution to the problem of body acne it is important to keep in mind that no two acne sufferers are the same. While asking family members and friends which acne medications worked best for them is a good way to start, it is important to remember that the product that worked for an older sibling or other family member may not work as well for you. Most acne sufferers will need to do a bit of experimenting to find out which products work the best. After you have determined which product or combination of products provides the most effective acne treatment and prevention, it is a good idea to keep a supply on hand in order to be able to treat future acne problems as quickly as possible.

That is because prompt treatment can make a great deal of difference when it comes to acne, and treating the problem right away can do a great deal to lessen the severity and shorten the duration of an outbreak.

The type of medication used is of course important, so as you shop around it is a good idea to get familiar with reading the ingredient labels. Knowing what exactly is in the acne medication you are considering, and knowing how effective the active ingredients are, will help you get the best value for the money. There are a number of proven acne treatment ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide, that tend to show up in a number of different acne medications, and these tried and true products are a good thing to look for as you shop.

In addition there are a growing number of all natural acne treatment products on the market, and these natural products can be very effective as well. Some vitamin supplements, such as vitamin A and vitamin B5, have shown real promise when it comes to treating both body acne and acne of the face, so it is a good idea to become educated about these natural remedies and to determine if they are right for you.

Beyond these over the counter treatments for body acne there are a number of acne medications that are available by prescription, and these prescription medications can be quite effective. If you believe a prescription would be helpful to treat your acne it is important to consult with your family doctor to determine which medication is most appropriate.

Top 4 Ways of Getting Rid of Skin Tags at Home

You can always get a doctor to get rid of your skin tags; however, because it is generally considered a cosmetic problem, many insurance companies won’t cover the procedure. This leaves you paying a large bill for what is considered a fairly simple process. Before you head off to the doctors office, why not try these simple home methods for getting rid of skin tags.

The first option you have for getting rid of your skin tags is to simply cut them off. It is important to note when doing this that there is a serious risk of infection if you use this method improperly. You should not only use brand new implements for this procedure, but you should also sterilize them first.

You can clean them either by soaking them in a sanitizer (the kind you clean yourself with, not your house) or putting them in fire for a minute or so. Just be sure to let them cool first if you put them in fire. You can clip off the skin tags with small scissors, but you may find it easier to use nail clippers. Simply snip the tag off at the bottom near the healthy skin. This sounds like it hurts a lot, but is generally not too painful. Be sure to have cotton balls or bandages around though, just in case you do bleed some.

Another method for skin tag removal is freezing them off. Doctors often use this method for getting rid of skin tags and warts, but products have come on the market in recent years for doing this at home. Simply find the product at a grocery store and follow the instructions. Because these kits are small and less effective than what a doctor uses, you should probably only consider this method for small tags.

The last home option available for getting rid of skin tags is to cut off their blood supply. This sounds slightly dangerous, but is probably the safest of the home removal options. In this method, you cut off the blood supply to the skin tag by tying string very tightly around the base of the tag.

Depending on the location of your skin tags, you will probably need help tying the string tight enough. Remember to use strong string and to tie it as tightly as possible. You will need to knot the string and keep in on for a few days. After the tag has been cut off from the blood supply, it will eventually die and simply fall off.

While these remedies may be effective for getting rid of skin tags, there are some instances where you should see a doctor instead. There are rare occasions where a skin tag can be malignant, so if you have one dramatically change size or color, you should see a doctor. You should also consult a doctor if anything goes wrong with the removal or if the entire tag doesn’t come off. Again, remember to be safe, sterilize, and get someone to help you if you need it.

The Problem Of Cystic Acne

While most forms of acne are merely troublesome and at times embarrassing, there are more severe forms of acne that can lead to scarring and pitting of the skin. One of the most severe forms that acne can take is known as cystic acne, and it is important that this serious condition be treated at once.

As the name implies, cystic acne is characterized by the appearance of pus filled cysts, and these cysts can easily lead to scarring and other serious complications. In most cases of cystic acne the cyst can appear similar to an acne nodule, but it will be filled with pus, and the diameter of the cyst is generally at least 5 millimeters across.

In addition to being unsightly, these cysts can be quite painful, and they can lead to serious scarring. For those who suffer from cystic acne it is important never to squeeze the acne cyst, since doing so could cause the infection to go deeper. This deep infection could in turn cause a much more painful inflammation, and cause a much longer healing time than if the cyst had been left alone to heal on its own.

Those acne sufferers who think they are suffering from this painful and serious form of acne should be checked out thoroughly by a qualified dermatologist. A good dermatologist will be able to look at the acne and tell what type it is, and he or she will also be able to recommend the products that will be most effective at treating that type of acne and making sure it does not return.

There are of course a number of over the counter products designed to treat all kinds of acne, and some of them can be quite effective at treating even the most severe forms of acne. When those over the counter products are not enough, however, there are a number of prescription acne treatments that may be appropriate for severe acne. Again, it is important to consult with your health care professional in order to find the best acne treatment products for your own skin type and type of acne.

How to Finally Get Rid of Acne for a Flawless Skin

One of the most common misconceptions about acne is that it is a sign of improper hygiene. Even with proper hygiene, you can still have acne or pimples.

Acne is a skin condition wherein the pores of follicles of the skin are blocked. The oil which should have been coming out of the surface of the skin is blocked, along with the dirt and bacteria, causing pimples to grow.

Basically, there are two forms of blemishes which break out on the skin's surface: blackheads and whiteheads.

Whiteheads form when oil, dirt and bacteria are trapped below the surface of the skin. Blackheads, on the other hand, form when the trapped elements beneath the layer of the skin turn black because of melanin.

Either way, the exact cause of acne is relatively unknown. This is a common skin condition which affects most people, no matter what gender, skin color or age.

Acne is more common among adolescents but adults may also experience it.

Acne among teens may cause more of an emotional than a physical problem, because of the hormonal changes that they experience before being full-fledged adults. Thus, aside from the physical treatment of acne, you may also need some emotional support so that you will not experience a lowered self-esteem because of this skin condition.

Although facial acne is more widespread, it may also form on other parts of the body.

This being a common skin condition, there are several treatments and over-the-counter solutions which can help prevent acne.

'Who Else Wants to Have a Clear, Acne-Free Skin?'

There are a lot of options available for you if you have acne.

First, there is chemical peel which is a light and simple procedure that will literally peel off the superficial layer of the skin. There are several types of chemical peel, depending on your skin's needs.

More commonly known are the over-the-counter acne kits which you can use at home to help prevent and finally get rid of those unsightly whiteheads and blackheads.

Zits, pimples, blackheads or whiteheads – no matter what you call them, acne is something that is foreign to your skin that you should get rid of.

Here is a quick guide on how you can fight acne and get that blemish-free look that you've always wanted to have:

1. Have an appropriate skin-cleansing regimen.

If you have been suffering acne for a long time and you finally run into a product that actually works for your skin type, keep using it.

The basic step is to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Use a mild cleanser which is most appropriate for your skin type. Use a medication with the basic benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

While applying the cleanser, do not rub vigorously or use a harsh wash cloth to prevent further skin irritation. After cleansing, use a good moisturizer to keep your skin smooth and hydrated.

2. Avoid touching the affected area.

The key is to keep your face as clean as possible, so you need to avoid touching your face with unclean hands. Also, never attempt to squeeze or pop out the zits to get rid of them. This will only worsen the condition of your skin.

3. Consult a dermatologist if over-the-counter treatments do not work for you or worsen the condition.

There are severe cases of acne which are better treated by consulting a dermatologist.

good 10 Easy Ways to Get Rid of Acne

Do you have acne? That must be hard. But wait – there is still hope.

Read the following tips for getting rid of that problem:

1. Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You can easily create juices and smoothies using ripe fruit or consume one salad daily, even as just a side dish. You can also pop in nuts and dried fruits in between meals.

Brazil nuts have selenium while pumpkin seeds contain zinc – both these minerals are lacking in people with acne. So take in lots of these two.

2. Try to drink at least two liters of still mineral water daily. When the skin is dehydrated, dead skin cells remain on the skin which may block pores and promote acne.

3. If you have been prescribed antibiotics to control your acne, remember that antibiotics destroy all kinds of bacteria in your digestive tract – even good bacteria. Without good bacteria, you will have poor digestion, constipation, and be less able to absorb essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

This, in turn, may lead to increased acne production since your body cannot expel waste effectively. Toxins pass through your skin instead. To prevent this from occurring, replace the good bacteria in your digestive tract with a good quality probiotic.

4. You may try consuming some supplements since your diet may not incorporate every vitamin, mineral and nutrient necessary to getting and keeping clear skin. Some supplements are really helpful to people with acne, such as:

• Maca – This is a powdered root vegetable from Peru that balances and stabilizes the systems of your body while normalizing hormones. Maca also has a lot of essential amino acids, phytochemicals, fatty acids, and minerals such as iodine, silica, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium.

• Manuka honey – This one possesses strong antibiotic, antiviral and antiseptic elements. It is great for the skin, as well as for digestive disorders.

5. Rely only on natural skin-care products. Many skin-care products on supermarket shelves have chemicals which can worsen your acne. Too many chemicals can strip your skin of its natural oils, meaning the skin will overproduce oil to compensate – thus blocking your pores and causing more acne to show up.

Use only products with natural ingredients or try to use fewer products to allow your skin to naturally heal.

Should you wear makeup, use formulas that are listed as non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic.

Some products you can use are:

• Tea tree oil body wash – This product can be used for the entire body, including the face.

• Tea tree oil – This product has antiseptic, antiviral and antibacterial functions. It is remarkable for use by acne sufferers. Use a cotton bud to apply this product to the acne blemishes.

• Neem soap – This product is very good for acne victims due to its antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibacterial properties. It also calms and soothes irritated skin.

6. Cut down on stress as this acts as one of the strongest precursors of acne, especially after puberty. There are different ways you can reduce stress and aim for relaxation:

• Exercise – Moderate exercise such as Yoga and Tai Chi improve skin blood flow and support the healing process. It also boosts the condition of your internal organs which allows them to eliminate waste more effectively.

• Try relaxation techniques including meditation and breathing exercises.

7. Cut down on your consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates. Recent research has shown that eating these foods triggers a process which leads to a production of too many male hormones. In turn, the skin is moved to excrete huge amounts of sebum which fosters the increase in skin bacteria - that triggers acne.

8. Lessen your consumption of caffeine because it hikes the level of stress hormones in the body, thus making acne worse.

9. Cut down on dairy and red meat products because these are difficult to digest and raise acid levels in the body. As you try to digest huge amounts of animal protein in your internal organs, your body cannot eliminate waste products well and these will be released through the skin – causing acne.

In addition, dairy and red meat have huge amounts of hormones. These raise the hormone levels in the body and trigger even more acne. Furthermore, symptoms of intolerance to dairy products can crop up as acne.

10. Get plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Sunshine triggers the production of Vitamin D which is essential to having healthy skin. Fresh air and sunshine will cut down on your stress levels and course oxygen through the skin. Learn to tell the amount of sunshine you need every day though, it does not help to get burnt in the sun.

Copper Peptides May be Beneficial for Skin Care

Copper is very beneficial for a number of skin conditions and, in fact, copper deficiency can cause a number of ill effects such as dry skin and rashes. However, taking copper supplements is risky - a precise balance is needed, and excess copper can be just as dangerous as not having enough. To attain the skin care benefits of copper without the risk, there are now topical solutions available that can be safely added to your skin care routine.

Although copper has been known as important to the synthesis of collagen and elastin, no studies had been done to verify its effectiveness when applied topically until the last few years. Now several studies have been completed, and all are showing the same positive results. One study, done by the Tulane University School of Medicine, showed improvement in fine wrinkling, facial pigmentation and sun damage. Skin thickness was also measured by ultrasound and increased by an average of 17.8 percent. Another study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania found that using a cream containing copper resulted in fast visual improvement in skin clarity, fine lines and wrinkles, improved elasticity and thickness. Overall, it's a great natural skin care treatment - it triggers the skin's natural renewal mechanisms to rebuild the protective barrier, increase the skin's ability to hold water and aid in removing damaged cells. Tests also show that it increases collagen and elastin even more than Vitamin C.

Getting the right type of copper, and the right skin care product, is important. The ingredients should list it as copper peptides, and the product you buy should contain natural skin care ingredients so you don't nullify the benefits by causing further damage with harsh and irritating chemicals. Also, there are different types of copper peptides and only some have tissue regenerative properties. The best peptides are those formed with copper 2 ions. Overall, it's best to do a little research before you buy. If you have any questions about which products are best, consult your dermatologist.Whichever cream you choose, using at night before bedtime gets the best results.

Adding copper peptide creams to your natural skin care routine could show almost immediate improvement, and, good news, they're not going to break the bank like some of the more expensive alternatives.

If you are wondering about natural skin care then you probably want to know what the big benefit is. A lot of products claim that they are natural and it seems to be getting more and more popular, but why is natural good for you? What is the real advantage of natural skin care? Well first of all natural skin care products do not have an artificial synthetic base. This artificial synthetic base is usually a chemical base. These chemical bases may actually harm your skin, but natural skin care products do not have these chemicals, therefore they will not harm your skin.

Another great thing about natural skin care is that you can often make something at home. The obvious benefit to this is knowing exactly what is going into it and also, you can make something at a fraction of what it would cost you to buy the natural creams and lotions. If you decide to make your own skin care products, you should start out with small amounts so you can decide if you really like making them and if you like the product itself once it is finished.

Another advantage of natural skin care is its anti aging properties. Natural skin products are known for helping your skin resist wrinkles and let's face it, who wouldn't want that?! There is nothing better than being 40 with no wrinkles, trust me, I know this for a fact. I have personally found that using very little makeup for most of my life and using natural skin care products has given me wonderful skin even into my 40's and I have no reason to believe that it will change any time soon.

If you decide to purchase your natural skin care products you will have plenty to choose from. You can find them in the natural foods section of your local grocery store if the store is large enough to have a natural food section. Or you can try your natural foods grocery story. There is also a good chance that there is a specialty store in your area that sells natural products. As this type of thing has gotten more popular there are more small stores that have opened that sell only natural skin care products.

The Internet is also a good source for finding natural products. If you live in an area that does not have any store available to purchase natural creams and lotions you will definitely find something on the Internet. Again, you should start small and do not order too much from one company to start. That way you can find what works for you without spending a lot of money

So many resolutions are made with good intentions, yet how many are kept by the end of the first week?

John Lennon once said, "Life is what happens when you're making other plans." You may have experienced it yourself: no sooner than you promise to go on a diet does Aunt Martha come to your house with a plate of leftover holiday fudge. You zip up your new jogging suit for that two-mile run, and open the door to a blizzard. Then the compromises begin. "I'll start tomorrow, I'll start tomorrow."

Does tomorrow ever come? Does the jogging suit get past the couch and the empty box that once held the fudge?

Don't feel discourage if any resolutions made for the new year are broken. Life has a way of throwing unexpected curve balls, and the best way to handle such a situation is to stick out the glove and try to catch it. If you don't, you know you have given it a shot. Apply this mindset to keeping your weight loss resolutions, and with a bit of willpower you may have the opportunity to find success.

It is possible to recondition yourself to the proper mindset and behavior for losing weight. The key is to take action, apply strength of will, and start immediately. Why wait until January First to take off the pounds? Even in the thick of the holiday eating season, you have ample opportunity to condition your body for weight loss.

Take a walk! Button up that jacket, wrap that scarf around your neck, and venture out into the world. The Most Effective Fat Burning And Muscle Building Workout That Takes Just 13 Minutes

Most people who want to burn off some excess pounds and tighten and tone their bodies simply don’t have 2 hours each day to spend in the gym performing the bodybuilding style workouts that most “fitness experts” recommend.

Plus, these workouts consist of exercises and techniques that do not exercise the body in the way it is normally used so they end up building a somewhat unusable strength. In my opinion, most people, unless their main objective is body building, shouldn’t perform the traditional style workouts

While I do still believe that machine and free weight strength training is the best choice for body building, it is NOT the best choice when it comes to general fitness goals like strength, flexibility, endurance, etc.

I don’t know about you, but I can barely fit in 15 minutes for exercise let alone 2 hours… and I personally am not interested in muscle size alone (which doesn’t mean strength and usually leaves you stiff and inflexible)! I’m sure your schedule is probably the same. The good news though is you don’t have to… you can burn fat, increase flexibility, build unbelievable strength and endurance, reshape your body, and build a level of fitness that is truly functional.

I want to share with you a workout that I do personally that delivers a great combination of strength, flexibility, cardio and muscular endurance, and fat burning.

WARNING: The following workout will not only surprise you, but it will likely go against everything you ever thought to be true about fitness. Also, it is recommend you consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

Are you ready? Good, here it is:

The following exercises should be performed with little or no rest between and you may need to adjust the number of repetitions or time depending upon your current fitness level.

  • Jumping Jacks –1 minute
  • Bodyweight squat (one-leg squat for advanced) – 15-20 reps
  • Push-ups (slower reps for advanced) – as many reps as possible
  • Kick butts (jog in place and kick your rear with both heels) – 1 minute
  • Hamstring floor bridge (use swiss ball or one leg for advanced) - 15-20 reps
  • Superman (lying on stomach w/ arms out to side, lift legs and chest off floor) – 15-20 reps
  • High knees (jog in place lifting knees as high as possible) – 1 minute
  • Stationary lunge – 15-20 reps
  • Torso rotations/twists – 20 reps each direction
  • Side bends/reaches – 20 reps each direction
  • Mountain climbers – 1 minute (if you can J)
  • Wall sit – as long as you can hold it
  • Dips (use chair/bench/stairs) – as many reps as possible

There you have it… sounds easy, right? That couldn’t possibly do anything, right? I personally challenge you… try it… no, try it right now! Drop what you are doing and give it a shot and see for yourself. If you find it a bit easy, which I doubt, perform it 2-3 times thru without rest.

This workout will deliver more usable fitness results and benefits than any traditional gym or health club workout. Now, you can of course implement this type of workout in the gym and make it even better, but the beauty of this is you can do it anywhere!

Also, this is just one example and as you can imagine, there thousands of other exercises you can add or replace… I actually recommend switching the exercises every 2-4 weeks or even better is to put together 3 or 4 different workouts and then rotate them.

If you are not familiar with one of the exercises just replace it with one you know that works the same part of the body. You can also learn all of these exercises along with dozens of others in my soon to be released video which will consists of several workouts like this that you can do anywhere to build and maintain awesome levels of fitness, even workouts with dumbbells, swiss balls, medicine balls, and more… watch for it in coming months.

Good Food/Bad Food and What's Left to Eat?

We've entered the Twilight Zone when it comes to the multitude of diets being promoted today. Starting with the Atkins Diet, then the South Beach Diet, now the Hamptons Diet and more. All higher in protein, lower in carbs, but the distinction should be quality of carbs, not singling out one nutrient entirely. If you are on the Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet or any other variation of a high protein/low carb diet simply adjust from eating low quality carbs like refined flour and sugar products (think if it comes in a box, it's likely low quality) to eating more whole food products like fresh vegetables and fruits - yes fruits.

Apples vs. Apple Jacks - You be the Judge

I know the traditional Atkins Diet doesn't advocate much fruit (too high sugar) but think about that for one minute. My strong belief is that an apple is a good food, a bowl of Apple Jacks cereal may not be on an equal level. One is highly processed sweetened by added white sugar and corn syrup, and one is natural, plucked from a tree and sweetened by the sun. Which would you choose? Don't shun fresh fruit for the sake of following your low carb diet to the letter.

Eliminating healthy, wholesome foods is not the best way to learn to eat better, but severely cutting back on the frequency of eating highly processed foods is. I saw a site which called it GM or MM: God Made or Man Made. If you think of those terms when you go to choose your foods, it starts to make more sense. No one says you shouldn't eat chips, or whatever strikes your fancy, but make them a treat - and eat the GM foods more often.

Common Sense Diet

Common sense will answer the question about what to eat. If you are on Atkins, South Beach or any variation of low carb diet, avoid processed foods, not natural foods. Stop using "instant" breakfast, and cook whole rolled oats for instance. Sure you might have to get up 10 minutes earlier, oh well. You're worth it!

You can still stay on a higher protein food plan, but this one minor adjustment will allow you to continue with your eating plan for a lifetime, rather than a short-time. I'd go insane if I couldn't eat my daily apple, banana or other fruit. I love fruit. I think there's a very good reason humans desire sweet foods - Vitamin C, and other nutrients, including bio-flavnoids.

Can You Be Addicted to Fruit?

I heard someone complain they were "addicted to fruit" and I had to wonder, what do they eat? The person who refuses to eat fruit because they believe it is too high in sugar, probably does eat cookies, crackers and sugary cereals. They might even drink artificially flavored and sweetened drinks, but they refuse to eat a natural food, grown from our earth? That makes no sense, if you think about it. Did our planet develop and thrive based on processed foods? No, of course not. They are very recent in the evolution of our world. Very recent. In fact, we've had processed foods less than 200 years while our planet is millions of years old.

With the high incidence of obesity, and our high consumption of processed foods, it's hard not to draw the conclusion that one causes the other. You won't hear big industry stating that case because our economy depends on us buying the products being produced by the companies that employ us. You'll never see it reported that "scientists discovered refined flour kills," even if it were proven true because it doesn't support our way of life. We need industry.

Witnessing the epidemic of food illnesses such as Mad Cow, and now Bird Flu, I can envision a society without the mass produced meat industry. It will come to pass - nothing but your local farm will be allowed to sell meat because the big farm industry cannot guarantee safety of the food supply. Meat will become much more expensive because when they can no longer mass produce it, there is nowhere for prices to go but up. So do we whine and cry and moan about our misfortune or do we start to think of meat as something to savor and enjoy like the Sunday roasts we had years ago? We never ate meat every day then - and we weren't so fat either. We simply didn't eat as much processed foods. Most of us had moms at home cooking us dinner, making our lunches and even fixing our breakfasts.

Yes, progress marches on, but when it comes to your body, common sense rules the day. The Common Sense Diet! Try it on for size today.

The How To Guide for Six Pack Abs

First off, I want to mention that, for most people, getting six pack abs is not an easy task. It requires dedication, but it is possible! Below is a general 2-step guide that, if followed religiously for 3 months, will produce results.

Step 1: Nutrition

This is the single most important part of the puzzle, hands down. You can have the most impressive set of abs, but if they're covered with a layer of fat, you won't see them! Break up your day with 5 or 6 mini-meals because this jump starts your metabolism. And stop eating the food that is preventing results: white bread, loads of pasta, soda, candy, fast food, hydrogenated oils, sugars and fructose corn syrup.

Instead, replace them with foods that will help you reach your goal: oatmeal, olive oil, whole grain breads, fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, natural peanut butter, chicken, fish, protein and water. Be realistic- you'll slip here and there, but make a conscious effort to radically improve your eating habits because getting a six pack will be impossible if you don't.

Step 2: Exercise

You need to concern yourself with 3 different exercises: cardio, weightlifting and ab exercises. And aim to workout 3- 4 times a week.

The cardio you do can be anything: walking, running, biking, swimming....whichever cardio you don't mind doing so that you'll stick with it. Aim for 30-45 minutes, a minimum of 2 times a week.

Weightlifting is important because 3 pounds of added muscle burns as many calories as a 1 mile jog...and this is while you're just sitting around! Aim for 30-45 minutes, a minimum of 2 times a week. If you're confused as to what exercises to do for each body part, check out out the following website. It features professional bodybuilders, but the information is great and can be used by anyone.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm

The last exercise you need to incorporate into your workout is ab exercises. Aim to work your abs a minimum of 3 times a week. There are a ton of different ab exercises you can do so try to find 3 or so that you enjoy doing so you can mix it up. A good database of different ab exercises is:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exername.php?MainMuscle=Abdominals

Tip: mix up your workout routine every 2 weeks to keep your body guessing and changing. Add or take away different weight or ab exercises, or at the very least, vary the weight, reps or form of cardio you do.

Well, there you have it. Follow the above for 3 months religiously, and while results will vary from person to person, you will experience improvement.

It will take dedication on your part, but imagine the feeling you'll get when you look in the mirror and like what you see.

easy 20 WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT

easy 20 WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT

1. Take it one step at a time

Start by paying attention to what you eat. Cut back on fat and sweets and add more fruit and vegetables. After you have that under control, add exercise. If you hate to exercise try it for only 15 minutes a day at first, then a 1/2-hour. Keep in mind that while you are exercising you are burning calories and not eating. Also, it will be easier if you chose an activity that you enjoy.

2. Find a friend

It is always good to have support when you are trying to lose weight. Find a friend who wants to lose weight and compare notes, weigh-in together and maybe even have a contest.

3. Use weights

Working out weights will build muscle and raise your metabolism so you will burn more calories. Also, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller ( but probably weigh more).

4. Eat fewer carbs

Don't eat as much bread and pasta and you will see a difference.

5. Set a goal

Set a deadline to lose the weight and write it down. For example, ' By Dec 14/04 I will weigh 150 lbs or less'. Put it somewhere you will see it daily.

6. Give up soda

If you drink a soda or 2 a day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop completely, cut back at first and drink water instead.

7. Grill or boil

Avoid fried meat, grill and use lots of spices. You will get used to it and probably enjoy it more.

8. Don't buy junk food

When you go shopping, don't go on an empty stomach and you will be less likely to buy junk food. Keep your home 'junk food free' so you won't be tempted to indulge.

9. Eat breakfast

Consume most of your calories early in the day and always eat breakfast. Don't eat after 8pm and not only will you avoid those added calories but you will sleep better.

10. Give yourself a treat

When you tell yourself that you can't have something you want it more. Give yourself a treat once a day ( ie. half a cookie) and you won't feel you are missing out.

11. Use smaller plates

Trick yourself into believing that you are eating more by using a smaller plate.

12. Drink lots of water

Drink water when you are feeling hungry and you will get that 'full' feeling.

13. Don't eat everything on your plate

Many times we eat just because it's there. Pay attention to when you have had enough.

14. Eat five or six meals a day

Eating more frequently will keep you from getting too hungry.

15. Plan your workout sessions

Write your workout sessions in your journal or planner.

16. Stay away from fad diets

Fad diets don't work. If you lose weight fast chances are that you will gain it back ( and more) just as fast. It takes time to put it on and time to take it off.

17. Do several workouts a day

While you are watching TV do crunches and leg lifts.

18. Measure your food

If you decide to have junk food for a snack - be sure to measure and control what you eat.

19. Keep pre-cut vegetables

...and ward off those cravings.

20. Create Good Habits

It is a known fact that when we do something twenty-one times it becomes a habit. Create good eating habits.

Ways to Burn Fat + Lose Weight

As we age, our bodies become less effective at burning fat because our metabolism slows down. When this happens, our body stores the excess calories as fat. What are some of the things we can do to keep our metabolism churning along and force our bodies to burn fat?

By following the guidelines listed below, you will help change your body into a healthy, fat-burning, smooth-running machine:

*TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN. Find a good multi-vitamin that contains healthy doses of antioxidants. Antioxidant nutrients protect your body’s cells from damage and help convert food into fuel, making them good at fat-burning.

*CUT OUT WHITE FOODS (sugar, flour, bread, donuts, crackers, etc.). They raise insulin levels, protecting your stored fat instead of burning it off. If you have these foods lying around in your kitchen, get rid of them!

*EAT BREAKFAST. If you deprive your body of food in the morning, it will shift into starvation mode and burn fewer calories, resulting in a slower metabolism. Make sure you eat a protein-packed breakfast within one hour of rising. This will jump-start your metabolism and put it in hyper-drive for the next three hours. The best breakfast contains protein and complex carbs like oatmeal and/or other whole grains.

*EAT FOUR OR FIVE SMALL MEALS EVERY 3 HOURS. Eating smaller meals that are protein-packed every three hours keeps your metabolism moving and helps your body maintain a stable insulin level. This prevents the body from releasing excess insulin and storing fat. Your body, instead, uses the energy right away, burning fat and helping you to lose weight.

*DRINK LOTS OF WATER, at least 8 glasses a day, instead of soda or other sweetened beverages. Water flushes out the system and eliminates harmful toxins. It forces the body to run more efficiently, speeds up metabolism, and makes it easier to lose weight and burn fat.

*EXERCISE EVERY DAY – There is no way to avoid it if you want to burn fat and keep your weight down. However, you do not have to kill yourself. The easiest exercise that will benefit anyone regardless of his/her fitness level that can be done inside or outside is walking. A brisk walk can burn as many calories as jogging, but does not have the risk for injury that jogging does. The only equipment needed is a good pair of shoes. If you do not want to walk alone, find a friend to go with you.

*INCREASE YOUR ACTIVITY LEVEL – Walk to work or park your car in the parking space farthest from your destination. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you sit at a desk all day, boost your circulation and by doing stretching movements. Make sure you take deep breaths while you stretch to provide cells with the energy-producing oxygen they need to burn fat. Go biking with your kids. Work in the yard, clean house with a little more vigor. Any activity is good for your body.

*REDUCE YOUR STRESS LEVEL - If you lead a stressful lifestyle, find ways to reduce your stress level. Stress increases the levels of cortisol in your body causing fat to be deposited. The more stressed you are, the more fat is deposited. Read, soak in the tub, listen to relaxing music, or whatever works for you.

Keeping your body healthy requires some work on your part. However, following a nutritious diet is a small price to pay for a healthy, fat-burning body that is better able to resist disease and illness. You will feel better, look better, and be healthier.

How to Burn Fat Naturally

There is a secret to burning fat naturally and effectively. The secret is eating the right foods and participating in regular exercise. When you eat correctly and exercise regularly your body becomes an efficient fat-burning machine.

Eating five small protein-rich meals every three hours throughout the day keeps your metabolism moving and helps your body maintain a stable insulin level. This consistency prevents the body from releasing excess insulin and storing fat. Your body, instead, uses the energy right away, helping you to lose weight.

Since eating actually increases your metabolism, eating regularly every few hours will keep your metabolism at its most efficient. Every time you eat, your body expends energy to digest, absorb and store food. Therefore, the more you eat, the more your metabolism revs up and the more fat your body burns.

When you eat your meals, you must make sure you are eating the right combination of foods. Use the guidelines listed below:

*DRINK WATER – In addition to eating more often throughout the day, make sure you drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses a day. Sip slowly throughout the day. Water speeds up metabolism and flushes toxins out of your body. Your body must have plenty of water in order to work at its most efficient level.

*EAT FIBER – High-fiber foods absorb substances containing sugars, fats, carbohydrates, and the calories associated with them, speeding up the movement of food through the body; this also speeds up weight loss. High-fiber foods include whole fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grain breads, cereals, wheat germ, barley and brown rice. Always check food labels for fiber content.

*EAT PROTEIN – A large percentage of calories from protein are burned off in the digestion process (this is called the thermic effect food). Of all the nutrients our body ingests, protein has the highest thermic effect. Eat lean meats, poultry and fish.

*EAT HEALTHY FATS - Monounsaturated fats do not raise blood cholesterol levels and are an excellent source of antioxidants. Monounsaturated fats are, in fact, required for the body in order to function effectively. Replace butter and other fat with extra virgin olive oil in cooking and baking. Season your olive oil with garlic and/or herbs and spices.

*AVOID CARBS BEFORE BEDTIME – Carbohydrates provide fuel for your body. When your body does not need them for energy, it stores them as fat. Eating carbs before bedtime will result in excess fat, something you DO NOT want.

*EXERCISE –The easiest exercise that will benefit anyone regardless of their fitness level, that can be done inside or outside, is walking. A brisk walk can burn as many calories as jogging, but does not have the risk for injury that jogging does. As an aerobic exercise, walking revs up the metabolism and keeps it going even after you have stopped. The only equipment needed is a good pair of shoes.

By following the guidelines listed above, your body will function more efficiently, you will lose weight, and you will be healthier. It is not difficult to make the changes necessary to transform your body into an efficient fat-burning machine. You will have better health, longer life, and more energy.

Do Not Force Yourself To Lose Weight Quickly If You Do Not Want To

Getting your body in good shape and losing weight do not have to be incredibly hard. There are many ways that you can turn your body into the one that you have always wanted. You can find many ways to lose weight but not all treatments work for everyone. If you have tried many ways and finding it hard to lose weight, and in the end become depressed over it, then you should rethink about how you look at your weight issue.

Sometimes weight loss cannot happen very quickly, it might take weeks to months for one to lose weight. At other times, it might be due to other health issues or condition that cause your weight issue. Hence, you need to find the root cause of your weight problem to solve it effectively.

For instance, losing weight after giving birth is not always easy. There are many women who put on a great deal of weight when they are pregnant. They will find that it is not always gone after giving birth to the baby. This is something that they will have to work on until they are satisfied with the way that they look and feel again. It will take a lot of hard work and determination. But at the same time, one should not worry too much about the weight gain at such times and one should spend quality time to savor the joy of giving birth to the baby. One thing for sure, you can definitely lose weight after giving birth, but it just takes time and effort for that to happen.

So instead of losing weight quickly, it is better to make your weight loss program as fun as possible. Get your friends in on the fun of losing weight together. This is a good way to get in shape in a fun way and having some help along the way. It is difficult to lose weight on your own and when you have support to help you, it will go a lot better. Well this can be a fast way to lose weight, but you must also understand that losing weight has a lot to do with how you feel about your body. There are different ways to help make certain people get in shape and feel good about their bodies again quickly. This does not have to be hard, it just takes some will power and determination. With these things, you can make all your dreams come true and look your best for no one else but you.

Weight Loss Surgery; The Last Resort

For millions of overweight people who have walked through the endless revolving door of weight loss and weight gain there may come a day when having weight loss surgery becomes a decision with which they are faced. And while weight loss surgery represents the final frontier for many who have battled the bulge for years, it is fast becoming an accepted and commonplace procedure. What was once considered a risky last resort has now become a customary course of action among those looking to lose significant weight.

However, one thing that has remained the same is that weight loss surgery is meant for those who are clinically and dangerously overweight. It is not a quick fix for those who just need to lose a few pounds. When the dangers of obesity far outweigh the dangers of a surgical procedure then weight loss surgery becomes an option.

Luckily, weight loss surgery is now much safer and is performed by a host of experienced doctors who have delivered results for thousands of people around the world. It is of the utmost importance however to find a highly regarded doctor who is vastly experienced in weight loss surgery. Word of mouth can be a great place to start; once you hear of a particular doctor – from a variety of sources – who has earned a stellar reputation you can then go about researching his/her more factual credentials.

There are several types of weight loss surgery. During restrictive procedures the stomach is actually made smaller to decrease the amount of food that can be ingested. Malabsorptive techniques limit the contact ingested food has with the intestines thus reducing the amount of food that is absorbed into the body.

Weight loss surgery promises to become less invasive in the future as surgeons explore safer, non-invasive surgery in the form of laparoscopic procedures.

Regardless of anything, the decision to have weight loss surgery should not be made lightly. Every effort should be made to lose weight through diet and exercise first.

If you feel as though this is the solution for you, consult with your doctor on whether your risk factors for obesity-related diseases outweigh your risk factors for surgery. Do your research; talk to others who have had the procedure, go online to access the enormous amount of information available there; read every book and piece of literature you can find. Being educated on what to expect during and after surgery will help you make an informed decision.

And know that weight loss surgery does not mean that you are off the hook in being mindful of diet and exercise. Having surgery and then going back to your old lifestyle will only sabotage your chances of success. Be smart about weight loss surgery and a new healthy life can be yours to have.

What Foods Hold the Most Weight Loss Protection?

Obesity is one of the number one health concerns in today’s society. The US Centers for Disease Control estimates that over 60 million Americans, or 30% of the adult population, are obese. The term obese refers to people who weigh over 30 pounds more than their ideal weight, or who have a Body Mass Index of 30 or more.

One of the national health objectives in the US is to reduce the incidence of obesity to less than 15% of the adult population by 2010; however, current statistics indicate that the problem is still on the rise. In addition, the percentage of young people in America who are overweight has more than tripled since 1980. Over 9 million children and teens between the ages of 6 and 19 are considered overweight. This equates to 16 % of the population.

There’s no question that losing weight is not easy. And, it’s also clear that we’ve changed our lifestyles in ways that are making it easier for us to become obese. Some of the biggest culprits in the battle of the bulge are the following.

• Busy Schedules – The average family has a much more demanding schedule than in years past. Because of this, mealtimes often go by the wayside, and we choose lots of fast food. Our stress levels may also lead to emotional eating, where we have no concept of how many calories we’ve consumed. These factors combined have made our diets poor and our concept of a normal meal skewed.

• Sedentary Lifestyles – Today many people spend lots of time sitting down between our desk jobs and our love of watching television and playing computer and video games. For many of us, regular exercise is simply no longer a part of our daily life.

• Large food portions – Most restaurant portions are 2-3 times the size that makes up a reasonable meal. From this we’ve gained a distorted image of the size portions we should be eating, and we’re consuming far too many calories in a day.

• Poor nutrition – Processed foods are a staple in the American diet. In addition, we eat lots of red meat and products made with white flour. These overly processed and high fat foods make it easy to gain weight. They also lead to heart disease and high cholesterol.

So, what do we do to overcome our weight problems? Well, as with many things, there are no magic bullets. To lose weight, we have to expend more calories than we consume. It’s just that simple.

Losing weight is simple, but it’s not easy, particularly since much of the food we’re presented with every day is not conducive to weight loss. So, if you want to lose weight and keep it off for good, you need to make a commitment to making long term changes in your life. Starving yourself is not the answer; making changes you can live with is the way to go. First, take a look at what you eat. If you’re guilty of eating lots of processed foods, red meat, sugar and white flour, make changes in what you eat.

Substitute chicken and fish for red meat most days of the week.

Cook your own meals using fresh ingredients; don’t rely on processed foods that are loaded with preservatives.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables

Choose whole grain products over those made with white flour

Reduce the amount of sugar in your diet.

These changes alone should help you lose weight. However, for many people it will also be necessary to look at how much you eat. Portion control is very important, because very large portions of even healthy food can mean that you’re consuming too many calories.

The second half of the weight loss equation has to do with exercise. Not only will exercise help you burn more calories each day, but it will also help you build muscle. Muscle is important because even when resting, muscle mass burns more calories than fat. So, if you have a lot of lean muscle, you’ll burn more calories in a day, without even trying.

Aim for 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five times a week. Walking is a great way to get your cardiovascular exercise, and it will help build muscle in the lower body, too. Just be sure that you’re walking at a pace that will make you sweat. Raising your heart rate during your cardiovascular workout is important for keeping your heart healthy.

In addition to your cardiovascular workout, get in some strength training three times a week for about 20 minutes each session. You don’t need to become a body builder, but adding some lean muscle will speed up your metabolism and make your body look thinner and leaner.

Finally, take a look at adding some “functional foods” to your diet. Functional foods are those that have benefits to the body above and beyond their basic nutritional qualities. Foods that would be considered functional foods for weight loss would be those that make us feel full and satisfied for longer, and those that have the potential to increase our metabolism.

For example, you may have heard of negative calorie foods. These are foods that contain fewer calories than your body uses to digest them. Some examples of negative calorie food include raw carrots, celery, asparagus, apple, beet, berries, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, chili, cucumber, garlic, lettuce, grapefruit, lemon, mango, onion, orange, papaya, pineapple, spinach, turnip, and zucchini.

There are likely other functional foods for weight loss. Foods that are believed to be functional for weight loss include low fat milk, nuts and tea. A study reported by the UK Tea Council discusses certain foods and their potential to be functional weight loss foods.

Studies have shown that people who drink 24 ounces or more of milk each day tend to weigh less than people who don’t drink milk. So, it appears that adding 24 ounces of milk to your diet each day might be a good way to lose some weight, and help keep it off.

Nuts have gained a lot of attention because of two important properties. The first is that nuts are very satisfying. Nuts can help you feel full for longer, helping to ensure that you eat fewer calories in a day.

Secondly, nuts are a good source of healthy fats. These are the fats that help raise your HDL cholesterol level. HDL cholesterol is what is known as “good cholesterol” because it has the power to carry molecules of LDL cholesterol “bad cholesterol” to the liver, where it can be removed from the body.

A final food that is likely functional to weight loss is green tea. Green tea has been shown to help regulate blood sugar naturally, which may help us store fewer calories as fat. Secondly, green tea has been shown to promote thermogenesis; heat that burns body fat.

Green tea is extremely low in calories, and very healthy overall. So, if it can also help us lose weight, it may just qualify as a “super food”. There have been numerous studies linking green tea with preventing disease and protecting health.

So, if you’re battling the bulge, get some exercise and make some changes in your diet. And, make sure that one of those changes is adding some “functional foods”, so that losing weight can be easier than ever!

Kick Back And Relax For Weight Loss

A couple of ground rules first. When I say to kick back and relax for weight loss, I don't mean to imply that there is no effort involved in losing weight. The old truths still remain. If you eat more calories than you use, you gain weight. If you use more calories than you take in, you lose weight. A combination of exercise and sensible nutrition are the key. Nuff said!

However, trying too hard to lose weight can actually sabotage your weight loss efforts while possibly creating an unhealthy situation for you.

First of all some simple facts. If you cut your food intake too drastically or limit your food choices, in addition to potentially depriving yourself of essential nutrients, you may actually alter your metabolism so that your body learns to survive on fewer calories. Not only does this mean that strict dieting may result in only small losses, but, as so often happens, when you finally fall off the diet wagon your body will continue to use fewer calories for its daily functions and activities and store even more fat than before. This is why yo-yo dieters tend to gain weight over time.

Seriously restricting your food intake may also deprive you of energy. This can result in lowered ability and willingness to actually perform the very activities that can help burn calories. An extreme decrease in nutrients coupled with related psychological effects may also produce a mental unwillingness to keep going with the program. Since, at least it seems to me, one of the reasons for weight loss is to be happy, healthy, and enjoy life more, creating this sort of situation seems like a lose-lose proposition.

From the physical standpoint, trying too hard in terms of difficulty or amount of exercise may result in actual physical injury. At the very least, someone trying to do more than they are actually capable of may reach a point where their body and mind team up to demand that they "knock it off".

Now, let's talk about stress and weight loss.

If you are trying too hard, whether physically or mentally, you are stressed. In fact, as soon as you decide to "go on a diet" or "start trying to lose weight", you are under stress. Ever hear of "stress eating"? Well, it's real. There are psychological and physiological reasons why, but the bottom line is that when under stress, many of us are tempted to eat more. Chemicals in our bloodstream, such as cortisol, not only cause us to want more food, but even act as a drug, which they are, producing nearly irresistible cravings in some people.

So here's what you do.

Start your exercise program off at an easy pace. Slowly increase the difficulty or time. There's no hurry. The key to good weight loss results with exercise is to keep at it for weeks, months, and even years. In fact, if you're on the right track, you are creating a lifetime habit.

Make your nutritional choices wisely. There is no law anywhere that says a piece of pie or bowl of ice cream will send you back into the gutter. In fact, there is no reason why such treats cannot be an occasional reward for good behavior. The occasional nutritional indiscretion will not offset a daily lifestyle of exercise and good nutritional choices.

Try to relax. Try meditation, yoga, long walks, prayer, good conversations with friends...whatever works for you. Get a good night's sleep, because being short on sleep can actually trigger cortisol production. Yes, this is a bad thing. A good night's sleep can help your weight loss program immensely.

Last, but definitely not least, recognize that you are only human and will err no matter how hard you try. You would tell your best friend to forget about it and just get back on track if she admitted to pigging out on a quart of Rocky Road. Be your own best friend and learn to forgive yourself.
